PASS THE STORY : CLASSROOM ACTIVITY
FEBRUARI 6, 2024
Encourage creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills by building a collaborative story one sentence at a time.
A stack of paper (or notebooks)
Pens or pencils
Optional: A timer
Set the Theme (Optional):
You can give students a theme (e.g., mystery, fantasy, adventure) or let them write freely.
You may also provide an opening sentence to get them started.
Start Writing:
Each student writes one sentence of a story.
They then fold the paper to cover their sentence (or pass a notebook) and pass it to the next student.
Continue the Story:
The next student only sees the last sentence and adds their own.
This continues until all students have contributed at least once or until a full page is completed.
Read the Story Aloud:
Unfold the paper and read the story aloud to the class.
This often results in hilarious and unexpected plots!
Illustrated Story: After every few sentences, a student adds a small drawing.
Timed Challenge: Each student has only 45 seconds to add their sentence.
ACTIVITY BASED ON MALIN KUNDANG STORY
NOVEMBER 5, 2024
Hi everyone!
Today, I’m excited to share some fun and educational activities inspired by the classic story of Malin Kundang! Whether you’re reading the story for the first time or it’s already a favorite, these activities will help bring it to life in creative, playful ways.
The story of Malin Kundang has such a strong message about family, gratitude, and kindness. Through these hands-on activities, children can explore the emotions of the characters, reimagine the story with new endings, and understand the importance of respect and love for those who support us.
So, let’s dive into some adventures! 🌊✨
Have fun making Malin “turn to stone”! 🥳
Materials Needed:
Air-dry clay or playdough
Small toy figure or printed image of a character (to represent Malin)
Instructions:
Mold the clay around the figurine to represent Malin turning into stone.
Let your toddler squish and shape the clay to “transform” him. (This is a great sensory activity!)
Once done, they can display their “rock” creation or use it in the sensory bin.
Let’s bring the story of Malin Kundang to life by creating a mini rock garden that captures his legendary journey and transformation 🥰
Materials Needed:
Small, smooth stones (various shapes and sizes)
Air-dry clay or playdough (optional for adding details)
Mini plants or faux greenery (to create a “garden” feel)
Small figurines or printed cutouts of Malin and his mother
Tray or shallow container (to hold the mini rock garden)
Instructions:
Create the Rock Garden Base: Line a shallow container with smooth stones to form a mini “beach” or “shore” scene.
Add Details with Clay: Shape a few stones with clay to create the look of “Malin turning to stone.” Toddlers can mold clay around small figures or stones to resemble transformation.
Arrange Mini Plants: Add mini plants around the stones to give the garden a lively, natural atmosphere, where Malin is “frozen” among nature.
Interactive Storytelling: As toddlers build the scene, tell a simplified version of the story, using figurines to act it out.
Imagine you’re Malin, and you want to say sorry to your mom. What would you say? Writing an apology letter lets children reflect on Malin’s mistakes and learn the power of forgiveness. After writing their letters, they can even share them aloud if they like. This is a beautiful way to open up conversations about kindness and making amends.
Here’s a fun idea – a message in a bottle! Children can write a little message about what they learned from the story, like, “Always show respect to those who love us.” Then, roll up the paper, place it in a bottle, and keep it as a reminder. It’s a lovely keepsake with a timeless message.
Let’s get creative with some rock art! Paint small rocks to represent different emotions found in the story – joy, sadness, surprise, and even anger. As children place each rock in the story’s timeline, they can discuss what emotions might look like and why certain moments feel the way they do. It’s a fun, colorful way to connect with the story on an emotional level!
Finally, let’s map out Malin’s journey! On a large sheet of paper, children can draw his travels from his hometown to his adventures at sea and his final return. Encourage them to add symbols for important events, like a treasure chest or a stormy sea. It’s a wonderful way to visualize the story while using their imagination.
Create a sensory bin that represents Malin Kundang’s ship journey!
You’ll Need:
A large container or bin
Blue-colored rice or blue water beads (to represent the sea)
Small toy boats or ships
Small pebbles or rocks
Figurines (people, treasure coins, etc.)
Shells or sand (optional, for beach effect)
Instructions:
Fill the bin with blue rice or water beads to represent the ocean.
Add boats, rocks, and little figurines to represent Malin, his mother, and the treasure he finds.
Let your toddler play with the bin, move the ships around, and tell a simple version of the story as they explore.
FAMILY MEMORY JAR :
Capture memories with it
and watch your jar fills with the beautiful moments of family life.
NOVEMBER, 2024
Materials Needed:
Clear jar (any size)
Colorful paper or cardstock
Pens or markers
Scissors
Stickers, washi tape, ribbon
Optional: Glitter, sequins, or mini charms
Instructions:
Decorate the Jar: Add ribbon, stickers, or even the year to personalize it!
Prepare Memory Slips: Cut paper into small strips for each memory.
Write Moments: Throughout the year, jot down special memories or funny moments.
Fill the Jar: Fold each slip and add it to the jar.
Share Memories: At year’s end, gather as a family to read and relive the moments.
Tip: Make it a yearly tradition to reflect on your family’s journey together!
